There are so many fish oils. Many are more concentrated in EPA/DHA, they have varying levels of purity from toxins such as pesticides, PCB's, heavy metals, and they have greatly varying prices.
From your experience (or from the experiences of the rest of you) which brands have you found to be the highest concentration/purity at the lowest price?
Usually the highest purity are also the highest price. The gold standard is Minami. I also recommend Sears Zonelabs OmegaRx brand. Both are pretty expensive, and both are safe for pregnant/nursing women.
If you are looking to cut cost, I would try for the cheapest ultra-refined grade you can find. One gram capsule with EPA + DHA > 500 mg. Costco occasionally has good deals, and GNC has a good brand.
Someone just posted a cheap ultrarefined brand in one of the threads, but I haven't tried that particular brand myself.

Thanks Marrena: I'll probably check out the Omega Rx. If you happen to remember which good brand was cheap or thread - let me know. That fish oil can get expensive.
I don't see any list of products lower than 5 stars though. Notice that Omega Rx is on there and also notice that LEF (Life Extension Foundation) is on there as well. LEF seems to have a good product at a fairly good price as well: http://www.lef.org/newshop/items/item00982.html.
Hard to say which I will go with. I ran out yesterday and had to go buy some more. I was using Natrol from Walgreens which is way low in EPA/DHA. I found the Double Strength Fish Body Oil from GNC locally: http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2216865&...42&parentPage=family. I took those and immediately noticed a difference. I'll tell you about that in another thread.
Hi Marrena, I continued checking on fish oil, and emailed GNC about their Double Strength Fish Body Oil, and here is the response I got:
"GNC uses Molecular Distillation to remove any contaminents. They are tested using Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC) international protocol for potency and purity by an independent, FDA registered laboratory and found to be free of detectable levels of mercury, cadmium, lead and PCB's."
So, there you have it. The GNC product seems to be of good quality and strength. I'll probably use it if I run out of my normal batch, but right now have ordered three bottle of Res-Q. From my research Res-Q seem to be the best price per capsule for high quality and concentration. I am currently taking the GNC brand though right now, and have had no problems at all with digestion.
As we all know that fish oil is used to treat some condition but problem is that how can I ensure I get quality fish oil?
These guidelines help you find a quality fish oil or cod liver oil:
* Make sure your brand is free of mercury, PCBs and other contaminants. * Confirm low oxidation levels in the fish or cod liver oil. * Check that your fish or cod liver oil contains vitamin E. * The taste test - lemon flavoring adds a fresh taste.
I have researched Carlson's brand and find it to be an excellent choice, and one I can highly recommend to you.
Do not take high-dose cod liver oil on my diet. Stick with fish oil. You can take cod liver oil at regular doses, of course, just adjust your fish oil intake down.
Res-Q 1250 is derived from Pelagic fish harvested from the pristine waters surrounding Norway. Manufactured in a pharmaceutical licensed facility, Res-Q 1250 undergoes an extensive purification process, including molecular distillation, and is tested to ensure that no pollutants, such as Mercury, PCB's, or pesticides, are encapsulated within the product.
I went to the Minami website and they advertise Minami MorEPA 1000 mg pure fish oil w minimum of 75% omega 3. 8 times more EPA (581 mg) than DHA (70 mg) plus 4.5 mg vit E. This seems inconsistent with your recommendation of 1700 mg EPA and 1300 Mg DHA. Is there a Minami dose that is more consistant or do I need to take DHA supplements? I was hoping to minimize the number of pills i have to take.
Went to the GNC website and they didn’t have the Concentrated Fish Body Oils mentioned in the book. They did have Double Strength Fish Body Oils but 90 caps is only $18.00. The book indicated good fish oil would be more expensive.
Total fat 1.00 g Cholestrol 5.00 mg EPA 360 DHA 240 Also has gelatin, rosemary leaves, lemon flavor, vit E and glycerin.
I’m 5’7 140 lbs so I’m guessing I should take around 1700 mg EPA and 1300 mg DHA, right? Is this a good brand? I'm eager to get started!
one capsule. I'll get it tomorrow at the GNC store. Thank you so much for you book. My husband and i are now separated because he thinks my lack of desire is because i don't want him. I'm hoping your diet will put me back on track. I love him very much but have not been able to express that physically for years.
