Hello,
I'm new!!! I just got the book a week ago, I cant believe my good luck in finding it!! Why hasnt any doctor I have been to told me any of this??? I am so annoyed with my doctor and all doctors, for continuing to tell women its all in their heads. Today for example on Oprah, she brought on her gynecologist to answer questions and a woman asked about not being able to have an orgasm after a hysterectomy and that gynecologist said to her, "well you didnt have your clitoris removed." I wanted to slap her and also felt bad for that woman because I have heard those same words and its just depressing when no one believes there is something wrong. (Please please Merrena go on Oprah!!!!!)
Anyway, I havent tried anything yet!!! But I just know its going to work because it makes sense.

I have a question.
I am on blood pressure medication. I have had high bp since my hysterectomy though every doctor tells me there is no connection. I dont believe them, though it really doesnt matter what I believe, I still have primary hypertension, and am trying to get off of my medication but it will take me a while. I lowered it by treadmilling daily for a while until I injured my foot and had to stop for a while. Now I am back on but in the meantime I am on 100 mg of metoprolol a day. My doctor knows NOTHING about supplements, she doesnt even know if my medication interacts badly with anything. She says ridiculous things like, "dont take any supplements, just take the drugs I give you". I dont know who to ask. I want to take fish oil, but I have read there is an interaction with metoprolol...does anyone know? Confused

Yes, there is, because fish oil itself cures hypertension. Is there a nutritionist you can see? I'm out of my element advising about interactions with pharmaceuticals, and I don't want you to do anything dangerous. But you might find with the fish oil you don't need the meds or as much of them.

Be very careful. If a nutritionist does advise you to try the fish oil, do it very gradually increasing the dose over a period of months and checking with your doctor for improvements where she can lower your metoprolol dosage if your hypertension improves on the fish oil.

As for Oprah, next time she calls me and asks me to be on her show, I'll stop saying no! Big Grin

Actually my picture was on her show for one second; early on I sent her an e-mail talking about the diet.

No I dont have a nutrionist. I will have to search for one on my insurance but I dont think there is one available for me. I think I will end up having to switch doctors to be able to try fish oil because mine is very western and against all supplements. (And she is of indian descent so just goes to show never judge a book by its cover...)
We must get you on Oprah! send her a book...
It just was so annoying to see this supposed expert that Oprah had brought on, dispensing useless information to all these women, she never once mentioned resistance for kegels, she actually told one woman to go see a kegel physical therapist because she was probably doing the kegels wrong, s this woman will go spend hundreds...when she could just buy a gyneflex...

I ordered a gyneflex so thats done, and I have to wait on the fish oil till I can get a new doctor but now I'm wondering about the magnesium-calcium zinc....is that something that might interfere with my bp medication? Or is that just considered normal vitamins? I am supposed to be taking a multi-vitamin but I never do because they make me feel sick to my stomach. I'm guessing magnesium and calcium and zinc are in multivitamins (I guess I could go look at the bottle...)

Calcium/magnesium/zinc are considered normal vitamins and shouldn't interfere with any meds at the RDA.

You should take a multivitamin if you take fish oil. Experiment with brands to find one easier on your tummy. Calcium/magnesium/zinc is separate from a multi (the RDA of calcium takes up too much space).
