I've been taking the fish oil since early September. I started with 6 capsules a day of an ordinary brand that I bought in a health food store, moving up to 10, am now taking six capsules a day of the Minami brand (that's 1644mg DHA and 1929mg EPA exactly). I'm 5ft6" and around 160 lbs, which is heavier than my normal weight. The weight gain was due to taking antidepressants. I've been slowly coming off the antidepressants since August and have been off them completely since early Oct. My libido is still dead as a doornail, I have no sexual fantasies or thoughts, I never have erotic dreams (I wish!), masturbation is just a chore and if I don't have sex it really doesn't feel like I'm missing out on anything.

I'm feeling really disappointed as I was hoping to have felt more of a change by now. Do you think I should get my testosterone levels checked and what tests exactly do I need to ask for? Or do you think my low libido is because of taking antidepressants? Should I try taking a higher dose of the fish oil? I was on sertraline for a year. I have started weight training too, but no effect yet in terms of a higher libido. I'm so worried that there's no cure or hope for me :-(

I would give it a little more time. It takes a full month for Zoloft to completely get out of your system, and it's so effective at killing libido it's one of the antidepressants used to treat premature ejaculation.

I would give your body a little more time to adjust to going off an antidepressant before you throw in the towel. I doubt it's a testosterone issue if you are otherwise healthy and had good libido before going on the antidepressant. Try to get a half hour of moderate aerobic exercise every day, if possible in the sunlight, for example, a brisk walk. That will help counteract the effects of going off an antidepressant.

Thanks Marrena, will give that a go. A friend of mine who's a nurse said Zoloft is now considered a really old-fashioned anti-depressant and there are much better newer ones with fewer nasty side effects.
