Hi there,
I just came across your book in one spirit book club. I ordered it right away. I have had zero I mean zero sex drive. I'm not interested, I have no thoughts of sex, no desire, no pleasant dreams nothing. I have been previously diagnosed with Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome. I have been on some form of birth control for this since I was 16. I am now taking a birth control pill microgestrin, because I wasn't having enough fun now I get migranes. I am looking forward to trying this new eating lifestyle, becuase I know my wonderful husband would like to have sex at some point this year. Now not only do I have the stress of work and school I have no sex and that worries me. It is not recommended that I get off the birth control until I want to attempt a family. My doctor is hesitant since I was and continue to have so many issues. Now, that is not to say I won't tell them to screw it here soon. I'm not big on modern medicines. Has anyone else here had these concerns? Any suggestions? I hope this book helps at least some. It would be nice to enjoy the pleasures of being married again. I think this was more of a 'vent' than a question, but I'm glad there is a board for support. Cheers! BAW |

Hmmm. Women with PCOS already have low SHBG, so you should not take the calcium/magnesium/zinc. Everything else should be fine.
I'd be very interested in hearing your feedback! As far as I know, you are the first woman with PCOS to go on the diet. Frankly I suspect you may respond even better than most women to the diet. I'm very curious! |

That would be great. I am expecting my book at any time now, hopefully I can read it and then; I plan on doing a basic body cleanse over thanksgiving and be ready to go starting the last week of November.
Thank you for your input and I will keep you up to date. I am sure I will have questions. |

Can you tell us why people with PCOS shouldnt take calcium / magnesium / zinc?
I am a type 2 diabetic and manage this with my diet and exercise only, but I have all the symptoms of PCOS although no cysts yet... should I not take the calcium / magnesium / zinc either? I just bought some last night! Thanks! |

The action of the calcium/magnesium/zinc--really just the magnesium and zinc but the body needs calcium--is to lower SHBG. Women with PCOS already have very low SHBG, I believe. The typical American woman has high SHBG from the high carb diet most of us eat and from hormonal birth control. I don't know in your case, I don't know what your SHBG level is.

I have PCOS and I have been taking Yasmin since I was 17. I am now 21 and I have been in a relationship for a year. I have a few questions and comments. I have no problem with libido and I eat very low carb and healthily in general. I also have a hypoactive thyroid for which I take medication. My only problem is climaxing during sex. I will see if there is a better forum on this sight for my questions about that. My main question here is if the Yasmin affects my vaginal/clitoral sensitivity. I read online that birth control pills that have the same hormonal dosage for the three weeks before menstruating can reduce sensitivity more than others that vary in hormonal dosage. Is this true and is this possibly something I could change?

I'm not a doctor and not an expert on the various forms of birth control out there. However I am against hormonal birth control in general--I prefer barrier methods, non-hormonal IUD's, and the sympto-thermal method, because all forms of hormonal birth control can affect libido and sexual function to some extent. Here are some links on Yasmin:
