Hi there,

I red in the Orgasmic Diet book to eat like 40/30/30, carbs/fat/protein. And I was like WHAT!? HOW?! The book says that Its not too far of from what people in America normally eat. I also saw the sample menu's and I was sort of amazed. Do Americans really eat like that?

I'm having a hard time with the 40/30/30 thing becuase my normal diet is like 80/5/15 carbs/fat/protein. In case anybody likes to know, The Dutch diet is pretty carbs-based. My diet is also build around the carbs. We live to decorate our carbs with stuff, especially bread, so they taste extra good.

Breakfast 8 a.m. is bread or Wasa crackers with honey/marmelade/jam/something else sweet and a cup of tea.
At 10 a.m. coffee or tea with cookies/biscuits
Lunch 12 p.m. bread/sandwiches again, with Becel Light or other halvarine and this time mostly meatslices/hamslices/chickenslices/eggs/sausageslices/cheese/peanutbutter, with milk and also a piece of fresh fruit like an apple/mandarine/banana.
3 p.m. tea with cookies/biscuits
5 p.m. something salty like cup-a-soup (this isn't a traditional time to eat someting but 30 years ago at 5 p.m. everybody was home, now workingtimes have changed so were having dinner at 6.30 p.m.)
Diner; traditionally, cooked potatoes with vegetables and cow/chicken/pork/sometimes fish, veggiesoup, tomatosoup, chickensoup or several dishes we call 'stampot' maybe translated crushpot? But the Dutch (just like probably the rest of the world) eat more and more Pasta, bami, spaghetti, macaroni, Nasi Goreng, other rice and wok-dishes, Mihoen, Noodles, Pizza's, baked or fried potatoes because its fast and we don't have time everyday anymore to make the proper meals.

Bread and potatoes are the very base of what I and many others here eat. Its feels really weird to eat no bread for lunch or breakfast at all! Its what everybody does around here, I feel like I was raised to eat bread!

Friends of mine took a holiday and went to America. The first thing they did when they got home? Eat as much bread as they could. They missed that so much in America, they were starving for normal bread instead of whitebread or sweatbread like bagels. (we don't have bagels here by the way, we can only get them at McDonalds)

You guys probably are like what!? 80% carbs!? Yeah. I heard Dr. Phil on the tv say that people have to eat low-carb in order to stay lean and healthy. High-carb is what the Dutch call healthy. Much fruit, veggies, and whole-grain bread or cooked potatoes, not too much meat/chicken and as little fat as possible.

I NEVER eat whitebread. Always wholemeal bread, crackers and cooked potatoes, (okay sometimes baked in olive oil, I'm only human) and also wholemeal pasta and brown rice.

I was sort of surprised by a quote from a woman on this forum. She said that she had trouble keeping her weight up and she tried to GAIN weight with a HIGH-carb diet. I was like HUH? I live high-carb and I'm pretty normal, not fat. (176cm/5"9 65kg/130lbs When Dutch people want to gain weight, we try to do what is the image of American nutricion here. Much more meat, much more fat, and eating Lays and chocolate at night. I'm sorry guys, America sort of has a very-bad-health image here in The Netherlands.)

But if that results in a very-good-sexlife image, then were sort of even. Does this mean Dutch people/women actually have higher risk of bad-sex-life-syndrome?

Anyway, so far about the Dutch, me, I LOVE bread and raisinbread and potatoes and I don't think I can give them all up, but I really do want orgasm's so I'm going to try.

I would find it fun to know what your favorite dayly food-routine looks like. What do you eat for breakfast and how do you lunch?

Sorry this post got so long, so if anyone reads this, thanks a lot!

You do need good fats for healthy testosterone. Not a lot, but some at every meal is good, like putting a little butter on your bread.

I am fat, no question. However lot of women who have gone on the diet have lost weight, because American weight-loss diets are very similar to mine. Americans eat more starchy foods than the Dutch, and it's not healthy whole-grain starches either. If you read up on the Zone Diet or the South Beach Diet you will get the idea. It isn't 40/30/30 by size, it's 40/30/30 by calories. It doesn't take much good fat at all to reach 30% of the calories of a meal.

Try to eat your starchy carbs in the morning, if you are going to eat them, and maybe have an egg or two along with your bread for breakfast? That way the high serotonin from the starch will wear off by the time evening comes around and you are having sex.

Dutch probably have better sex lives than Americans because your meat and poultry (I believe) are free range.

Thank you for replying so soon!! Good idea to put my (starchy) carbs in the first half of the day.

I'm sorry, I really didn't mean to imply the author of such a diet had to be, er, voluptuous. I just wanted to show the discrepancies between diets on the other side of the planet. (And really, whats the point of having a hot body when you don't enjoy sex? Wink)

The Zone Diet and South Beach didn't really hit the jackpot here, because those diets are so different from what we are used to. The body also doesn't like such a radical change. Atkins actually did become a hype and people addicted to fats thougt they found the Holy Grail. The Government and many health institutes were all over it. For weeks we only heard on radio and television NOT to try Atkins Razzer because docters feared for increase in heartdiseases, liverproblems and other risks.

Health is HOT issue in The Netherlands. The Governments Foodcentre has spots on television about so-called Balance-Days (after a day you at somewhat more that you should, you should eat somewhat les the next day) about bad foods, and foremost about children and what they need to eat. Spots for parents about giving children alcohol and smoking has become forbidden. Everywhere. Hotels, Restaurants, at work, even in bars and disco's!

We can choose between food qualities. We have three sorts of meat and poultry. The normal, affordeble sort is sometimes not free range. But it must be on the label. Then we have the free range but thats a flexible term. 8 chickens on 1 square meter means free range. And then there is the biological hype. Biological meat and poultry is the best of the best. Cows had the best grass and space and sometimes come from Ireland, Poultry got special food and lots of space etc. etc. Same goes for milk (you can buy milk from cows which have been outside much more than the 'standartcow') and eggs. Oh, and you pay for it. Its mostly 1,5-2 times the price for normal free range. Are you saying Americans don't have that choice?

Our government is also a big fan of biological meat and poultry. There is a big (dramatic) campaign about the lifes of the animals we eat. They argue that the consumer chooses the fate of animals and therefore we should check the labels on our meat and poultry so we know what kind of life our food has had. Whahaha, I bet that campain would be a lot stronger if it stated "The better the life of your food, the better your sex life" Big Grin

Boyfriend loves the 'new' biological milk from happy healthy supermeadow cows Razzer. He thinks it tastes better than our normal milk.

I was thinking about your theorie about the secret malnutricion. Maybe the omega-3 slowly comes back in our food?

Yes, it is better to get omega-3's from food than fish oil, but it's hard to get enough, particularly in America.

It's getting easier to find free-range meat and poultry, but it's also expensive. And unlike in Europe, big corporations are the real rulers of America, so we don't hear so much about how free-range is good, because that would threaten the chokehold Big Agro has on us.

A recent very rigorous study has shown the Atkins diet is both healthier than a high carb lowfat diet, but also better for losing weight. It just came out last month; I should have saved the link. It was in Israel.

Oh really? Well, it makes sense since Atkins was kind of our original historic diet, wasn't it? I'm certainly going to try and quit eating the much bread and potatoes I normally at. But its weird. When I think of a salade, eggs, chicken, fish, cheeses and other things I almost immediatelly think about which kind of bread would taste great under it. But I'm going to give it a try... Smiler

The Dutch are afraid we are going to get the same thing. Politics I mean. American campains for presedents are paid by big businesses right? And big companies want something back for there money. Some people think that is why Bush didn't sign the Kyoto threaty among other things.

In Holland anyone can start a party. Everyone can become the prime-minister. Thats democracy. But there are rules for a party, they have to have members who only vote, not participate in The Second Chamber, articles in the paper, and of course show where the money comes from. Rules over the sources and stuff.

The politics got harder after Pim Fortuyn started a party and would have become our prime minister in 2002- If he hadn't got murdered, only two weeks before the votes. (Yes, for our country that was similar to killing Barack Obama or John McCain (?) now in America) The existing party's started looking for a way out of the system.

Then one very popular policician, a women and former minister Rita Verdonk became very pissed. She was good for over half of the votes for her (big) party, but the party decided they wanted a man to be their leader. After a big fight, she stept out and started a 'movement'. That was a shocker. Not one of the party-rules apply to her, so no-one knowes where the money comes from. Businesses of course since she's in the right wing. If the law isn't changed, our businesses have a shot of growing mighty as well. Which would not be good in any way for consumers.

I hope many consumers ask for biological products in America, otherwise the chance of getting a choice in foods is, well, non-existent.
