Hey Marrena,

I just got done reading the book and I got all my pills. I am going to start the diet tomorrow, but I just wanted to ask you about Melatonin 3. I have been taking this for the past month to help me sleep. Before that, I was taking Ambien every night for the past 3 months. I wanted to get off that and try something more natural. Is the Melatonin going to interfere with the diet? Let me know. Thanks again.

I honestly don't know, I'm not sure how that drug affects neurotransmitters. Although from what I've heard, melatonin is pro-sexual so you should be fine.

Also fish oil does tend to make a person feel more relaxed, and taking some of the calcium/magnesium/zinc before bedtime can help with sleep.

Hi RiRi,
I'm not a doctor but I am studying biochemistry. Firstly, in my own opinion, I think it's good that you're taking melatonin (a natural chemical that the body can synthesize itself, albeit not in high levels in your case) rather than prescription drugs that can sometimes have unexpected side effects.

The brain reads two different kinds of signals: excitatory and non-excitatory. Stimulants like caffeine increase the number of excitatory signals and kill libido like Marrena said in her book. Melatonin affects the GABA receptors and is therefore considered non-excitatory.

Melatonin may work with you or may work against you. Since sex is often an activity before sleep, some associate relaxation with sensuality. Also, regulating your circadian rhythm is important for regulating your metabolism, immune system, mood, hormone levels, etc. On the other hand, in the wild kingdom, melatonin levels rise in animals (and some humans) in the winter and they are more interested in hibernating rather than mating.

Lastly, I agree with Marrena that omega-3 helps me relax. I'm usually the nervous type but I've definitely noticed an improvement with the oil supplements.

I'm not a doctor so I can't tell you what to do, but I hope that helped a bit.
