Dear Marrena,
I believe I fall into the category of women who need medical help to check testosterone imbalances, etc. I am 28 years old, I've been on anti-depressants for 7 years. I do not know what a sex drive feels like. I've been married and sexually active for almost a year and a half now. I've never had an orgasm. I'm not sure I've ever really been aroused. I have memories from high school of being somewhat aroused but it's so long ago that I'm not sure. I recently had a baby and I'm breastfeeding. I'm not depressed. I love my life. I love my husband. I want to enjoy sex but I don't know how. I tried to find a doctor who could help with FSD but it looks like they are all male urologists. I called a female urologist in town and the receptionist sounded like she'd never heard of FSD. They recommended I talk to an OB/GYN. When I did that a year ago I was referred to counseling. I'm in the process of getting on the diet. I've been taking fish oil for about three months but just started the mega doses this week. What should i do next? |

I believe I heard anti-depressants affect seratonin and dopamine levels in the brain and typically suppress sex drive and orgasmic ability. So, it's very possible the anti-depressants are part of your problem. Check out www.drsears.com and learn about how large doses of fish oil / Omega 3 help depression and should allow you to reduce or elminate your anti depressant meds. Also, sounds like you should get your hormones checked as you mentioned. Likely Marrena has more details.

I agree, I think the antidepressant issue should be addressed first. Going off of antidepressants (under your doctor's supervision) might not be an option, but if you do stay on them, try to switch to a brand like Wellbutrin that elevates dopamine too.
On the other hand, after taking high-dose fish oil for a few months you may find gradually lowering your antidepressant dosage a possibility (under your doctor's supervision). |
