Hi

I am just about to start the diet and am a little concerned about the long term effects of taking such high doses of fish oil. Has there been any studies done about health implications in years to come.

Also I am looking at 'feeling sexual' at weekends and wondered whether I can reduce my fish oil intake to the RDA during the week and up the dose at the weekend?

Sorry if you have already mentioned this somewhere on this site or in your book. I am new and very excited to start the diet!!!

I don't know if there have been studies looking at the long-term side effects of taking fish oil, but really the fish oil is just oil from fish. It might be more refined or more concentrated, but the doses of omega-3 fatty acids I am recommending are less than, say, the Inuit would consume on their traditional diet heavy in whale blubber. People in various cultures have lived on high-fat seafood diets for millenia with no ill effects.

My mentor at the NIH had an anthropological study done showing cultures that ate a lot of fish tend to be more non-violent and mystical, and the women tend to be more sexual.
