Thanks Marena for the info. I have tried to locate a doc in my area who will prescribe bioidentical hormones, so far no luck. I read that the FDa are telling docs to stop using biodentical estriol as it is not considered safe. I read this om www.homecoalition.org HOME (hands off my estrogens) Is this true? I don't know how old this info is. What do you know about it?
I had not heard about the FDA ban but it does not sound accurate to me otw we would have heard much more about it.
I use an online pharmacy to compound my testosterone. Either I or my docter faxes in the RX, I pay by Visa and it is shipped discreetly to my home - works out great. I use www.collegepharmacy.com.
Oh, and testosterone for women is not FDA approved but many gyno or docters will still prescribe it 'off label'. Insurance will not pay for it for women nor will they pay for my bioidentical progesterone cream that I get compounded at a local compounding pharmacy. Between those RX's and the fishoil it is pretty spendy but will be priceless if it brings my libido back!
My testosterone for 2.5mg sublingual tablets is $45.00 per month at collegepharmacy.com
My progestrone cream 25mg daily is about $25.00 at local compounding pharmacy.
I go back into my doc next month on day 20 of cycle to test hormone levels - she may adjust then and/or add estrogen if necessary to get correct balance of estrogen/progesterone etc.
My initial 'tingling' that I felt starting the fishoil has kind of worn off so I think the underlying hormonal imbalance and/or deficiencies need to be fixed for me to see long-term sustained improvements in libido and response. I try to remain positive but it is hard. So much contradictory information and advice even from doctors - I have tried primary care, several gyno's, and a naturapath. Frustrating too because my gyno was willing to RX the testosterone but did not even run the levels or analyze the other hormones. My naturpath thinks the progesterone is the missing link but is not authorized to RX the testosterone so I still have to keep bouncing back and forth between docters to get a complete picture. I was encouraged when I just read Dr. Lee's hormone books that the progesterone may be the answer but so far I have felt no improvement and then I just read another book that said he is a quack. So frustrating but will keep trying though.
Thank you so much for this information. I focus on the natural side of things, but I know there's a point where a doctor is needed.
I'm not an expert on the prescription side of things.
You are the third here where the initial effect was only temporary! I am very startled by this, up until recently generally if my diet worked for a woman it would continue to work.
I still think the fish oil is helping. Just the initial tingling and 'omg maybe I am not dead' honeymoon phase excitement has worn off a bit. I just know that my hormone deficiences still need attention so I can really be the orgasmic women I know I can be!
