My wife has been on your diet for just over a month now. We've been slowly ramping up the EPA/DHA over time. She started with 900EPA/600DHA for a couple of weeks, then went up to 2550 total, and then 3600 total (with GNC brand). One thing we noticed shortly after taking 3600 for a day or two was that she started feeling "off." She suffers from some depression off and on, and it really hit her hard on the 2nd and 3rd day with the increased dose. I backed off the dosage to the original 1500 for a few days, and she seemed find, then went back up to the 2550 total...she again felt "off" or "funky." So, we backed off again. Have you had any responses such as this? I do know that if someone takes too much EPA/DHA that it can cause similar problems, but I'm not sure if she's even taking enough as it is. She's just over 5'2" and about 115lbs. Oh, and on a side note, when we stopped the 3600mg, that evening she seemed really giddy....that's why I thought she'd be able to handle the 2550 again...
I am confused by your post. How much each of EPA and DHA was she taking in total? A woman her weight should definitely not go over the amounts I recommend for a 130-pound woman in my book.
In any case she should listen to her body and take the amount that feels right to her, as long as it is below or equal to the amount I recommend.
She was taking 2160mg EPA and 1440 DHA when she experienced the worst symptoms. Then she was taking 1530mg EPA and 1020mg DHA prior to and after she upped to the 2160/1440mg. After hitting a total of 3600mg total, she tried the 1530/1020mg again, but this time she wasn't handling it very well...so she dropped back down to 900mg EPA and 600mg DHA - which she's been fine at. Right now, she's taking 1320mg EPA and 880mg DHA - and seems to be alright... a little emotional, but she's a week before her period starts. I think she said your book recommended 1700mg EPA and 1300 DHA for her. I don't know why she went up to 3600mg total but she did... She's currently taking her dosage through the day..3x/day - I think 2 pills 3x/day. I think if she were to take 5 pills total every day, she would be at 1800mg EPA and 1200 DHA. Hope that's a little more clear.
It sounds like where she is now is good. I would let her body adjust back for a good while and then try the slightly higher dose, 1530/1020. She shouldn't go up to the higher dose, she should listen to her body.
