I wanted to know if anyone has experienced insomnia when they have raised their dose of fish oil supplements. I recently tried taking one capsule a day of GNC's Triple Strength fish oil, but I have been experiencing early morning awakening consistently since that time. Previously I was taking the GNC Double Strength brand- two pills a day without problems for the last 2-3 months. The EPA is much higher in this supplement- 647mg and the DHA is slightly higher 253mg. My mood was definately improved, so I plan to go back to the first supplement. Has anyone had a similar problem?
Very interesting. I wonder if it's the ratio? I know from personal experience that high EPA with low DHA does nothing for my libido, although it does preserve the antidepressant effects.
Marrena, thanks for the reply. It sounds like there may be little benefit from higher levels of EPA in terms of libido anyway. What is the advantage of high levels or EPA anyway?
I could have sworn I answered these the other day! In nature EPA and DHA always occur together, and EPA helps improve mood. Mood of course has a big impact on libido. Also there's the issue of conversion--the body needs both EPA and DHA and one converts to the other.
