First off, I loved your book! I saw your story in a mag at my podiatists office, then had to read the book. thank you for your story and for the incredible research you have done on behalf of women. I just today started the diet, beginning with 1 fish oil supplement, 2 cal/mag/zinc tablets, 1 iron, 1 vit C...and of course the chocolate! I found Lindt 70% and dove Cocoa Vie. I recommend both, very yummy. I have fibrocystic breast disease and I cut out caffene becuase of my FBD. I only drink herbal teas, particulary lemon zinger. I haven't had the breast pains, so I'm assuming there is no caffeene here(?) Also, I changed my diet and began exercising since Aug, so the rest of the diet will be a breeze...excetp no tofu or supplement bars...yikes!
I have a few questions: 1. I found chelated cal/mag/zinc...is this ok? 2. I am considering taking Primrose oil(as i saw one women in your book did) and vitamin E-omega 6s...will this inerfere with the fish oil? 3. I decided on a multi vit w/o iron becuse i tend to get constipated (I use a natural fiber), so will the iron tablets be enough (28mg every other day)? 4. I eat half a grapefruit almost everyday (sometimes I have oatmeal)and I know that it can interfere with some medications. Do you know of any adverse interactions with any of the supplements in your diet?
And lastly, my husband is starting the fish oil too becuse he got hit at his last check-up with high Triglycerides. So we are both excited about the diet and following each other's progress.
Again, thank you so much! P.S. I love Steven Colbert too! Did you read his book? OMG, hilarious!
Do not take Primrose oil or omega-6's. We generally get plenty of omega-6's from eating factory-farmed beef and poultry.
If constipation is a problem you can try skipping the iron altogether, although I doubt you will be constipated once you reach the full dose of fish oil--it keeps a person very regular!
I don't know about grapefruit. Checking with problems with Coumadin is a good rule of thumb, and grapefruit does seem to interact, but it interacts by slowing down the metabolism of the drug rather than speeding up the effect, so that should be fine. The danger is in taking two things that both thin the blood.
Thanks, Marrena! I will be sure to follow your advice. I've been reading some of the other posts and am just encouraged by the results others have experienced. I'm confident that I'm on to bigger and better O(s)!
I just read the article and went out and bought the Fish Oil. Now how do I take it? It is "Nature Made" It says Fish Oil Concentrate 2400 mg. Omega-3 (EPA) 432 mg and (DHA) 288 mg. Any other suggestions? I have the calcium too. I am 57 yrs old and weigh 138 lbs.
I just wanted to let you know that i bought fish oil pills from Vitamin World and ones that I found at a military commissary, brand Bumble Bee. Neither give the fish burps, unless you take them on an empty or nearly empty stomache. Also, I found another yummy chocoalte, Godiva dark squares with Almonds...OMG Good!
wanted to update you on my progress. well, it's going great! and i haven't even started the excercises yet. I'm on my third week, and not quite on the full dose of the fish oil. i didn't get started on my final step to the full dosage becuse i had a busy week and didn't to adding my third dose. So i will start this week. but already i am starting to feel more sensation when my husband and i have sex. before i would just be laying there staring at the ceiling waiting for him to finish - you know, planning my day, trying to solve world hunger, etc. but now, as sooon as he penetrates me, i'm like - oh yeah, baby! anyway, this had just really changed my attitude about sex, and i am actually looking forward to it, just to see what i will feel. i sense the big O is within reach...thank you thank you thank you!
I'm new to the diet and haven't read the book but came across the article in Self magazine. I did a search and came upon this site. I'm going out to get the book this weekend. Can't wait. I've been taking a multi and the fish oil for three days now... haven't gotten the mineral supplements yet but I'm already noticing changes. Can't wait... this low libido has been around for over 5yrs now and both my husband and I are ready for some changes.
I'm into my 5th week, and the past 2 weeks were i had not felt anything...mostly though becuse my diet was crappy. i ate alot of carbs....today however, I am feeling that tingleing in between my legs and i've thought about sex all day. my husband has to work an overnight shift, but i have given him strict instructions to wake me once he gets home in the morning. Also, I am giong to get my period soon, and this is the time when i would normally feel horny, so i think that has something to do with my feelings too. I think i'm going to have to get started without him
something i else have noticed throught the last couple of weeks, is that my attitude has been alot calmer, and happy. i mean very little has bothered me...and usually i carry a modecum of righteous indignation but lately i have just had a loving attitude even towards people who have cut me off on the road. so i guess that's due to the right levels of seratonin, or dopamene in my system, or i'm just high on the thought of sex. whatever it is, my husband has noticed this too and my friends are asking me what i'm doing...i tell them and they look at me weird, but then ask where to get your book. one other thing, i really need my chocoalte fix...i've never fiended for chocoalate like i do now, good chocolate of course!
Thanks for the feedback! Yes, typically women do see a drop in libido between ovulation and menstruation, but as you say, at your regular high libido times you should notice feeling much higher libido.
yes, I have his site bookmarked. i'm ordering one of his "on notice" lists and posting in my office (ha ha).
btw, I'm having a hard time taking my pills at the same time each day...just get busy or what not and i don't take them on time. I've tried using a calendar reminder to do this but even that hasn't worked. is it important to take the pills at the same time everday? or just that you get you take the correct amount daily?
My biggest problem is that i don't always eat breakfast at the same time and that throws my eating schedule off. or sometimes i'm just not hungry until later in the day, though i do snack on nuts or fruit
