So what have you all been eating for breakfast? The book gives good examples, but I'm wondering what else you guys eat? I'm used to eating cereal every single day so for me this is a change! I have been having fried eggs, scrambled eggs, umm that's about it lol. Today I had oatmeal but then I checked out the nutritional info and it didn't have as much protein as I thought. Oh well!

I like to have yogurt in the mornings with a little bit of loose granola and half an ounce of dark chocolate chips. To give myself a change from scrambled eggs, which can get boring quickly, I have been experimenting with omelettes. I like to make ham and cheese with fresh mushrooms cooked in olive oil. Also, and my favorite, I have made mozzarella cheese with fresh cooked spinach and pesto sauce.

Hope this helps!

I admit that eggs are my standby for breakfast, but I eat them in the most delicious way possible: lots of butter in the pan, then crack three eggs into it, let it harden slightly, then puncture the yolks and push around the pan for another minute. Take them out when they're still wet and gooey (yum!), sprinkle some cheddar cheese over it, and slap it on top of a slice of whole-wheat organic toast --- make sure it doesn't have soy in it!

I also eat turkey sausages and even leftover chicken for breakfast, by making a fajita. Just make sure there is plenty of protein in it, to balance out the flour in the tortilla.

I'm curious about what I could be eating to get the amounts of protein Marrena recommends - about 3oz (83g) per meal, if I understand correctly. That seems a feat for me. I would have to eat pretty much solid meat all the time to acheive something close to that.

I ate 50g for breakfast yesterday, having 2 hard boiled eggs, 8oz of yogurt, mozarella cheese, and a glass of milk. And I felt like I ate too much, yet was unable to get the amount of protein I should be having.

I've been on the diet for almost 3 weeks now and I'm not feeling any different. At the beginning I was having sexy dreams, but now I have nothing more than what I started with. So, I'm wondering if it's the protein that could help with that.

My typical weekday breakfast:

2 eggs + a dollop of cream, scrambled in butter with a cup of veggies (usually mushrooms and bell peppers) = about 14g protein

1/2 cup lowfat yogurt made into a shake with 2tbs hemp protein powder and 1/4 cup juice. = about 10g protein.

On weekends I usually go out for quiche, with bacon on the side Big Grin

My goodness, some chefs on this board!

The diet part of it is very ballpark--I'm just trying to get women to avoid sitting down to a big pile of toast for breakfast, that sort of thing. You don't have to go crazy at breakfast on the protein, two eggs is fine.

I do want to stress that women are cyclical. Even I have times during the month of lower libido. The diet will not turn a woman into a man! So your libido will fluctuate during the month on the diet, and in waves it will improve--since you had a good initial reponse. The women it doesn't work for are women who don't see any change at all. Just be patient with your body and accept your cycle.

Sorry. I wasn't trying to refer to breakfast specifically in regards to protein. I am considering a protein supplement, such as protein powder to help me with my increased intake of protein. We shouldn't be having soy, so I would assume I shouldn't take soy protein. How about whey protein?

Protein powder can get expensive. So, what can I be eating to help increase the amount of protein I have, if I am shooting for the aforementioned 83g of protein per meal?

Whey protein is fine. It's not that big a deal, if you are a tiny person eating tiny meals, just eat in proportion, a balance of calories 40% from carbs 30% from protein and 30% from good fats at each meal. The fish oil and vitamins and minerals are more important than doing the food part of the diet exactly.

I get about 70g of carbs, and about 8g of protein for breakfast. I guess this is bad?

Not bad exactly--the food part of the diet doesn't have all that much of an effect, and you are getting some protein. Check the calories, the optimal calorie balance at each meal should be 40-30-30, forty percent carbs, thirty percent protein, thirty percent good fats.

Hey Kristin....

I'm reviving this posting because I just found it and am interested in the quiche recipe you spoke of. Do you still have it available?

I'm still doing the egg breakfasts any way I can, cheeses melted on top of them and toast on the side, and I'm getting fairly sick of eggs! LOL

I change it out sometimes with oatmeal cooked in milk and toss in some fruit & spices; or the yogurt, fruit, granola mix. Breakfast is boring for me and I struggle with it most mornings. I'm one of those that CANNOT eat dinner type foods first thing in the morning.

Oh, yes. Don't forget about my 1 cup of coffee, usually 1/2 decaf. It's odd because I used to consume 3-5 cups every morning and now 1 cup is more than enough for me.

Does anyone else have any other ideas?

It would be my pleasure! I haven't made this in a while, and I really should again soon. Great stuff. And it's pretty easy to make - basically just mix everything together, which you can do if you don't want to cook the onions first.

Spinach Quiche

1 (10 ounce) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed
1 medium onion, diced
Garlic
Extra-virgin olive oil
4 eggs, beaten
16 ounces cottage cheese (or Ricotta cheese)
2 cups shredded cheese blend
4 oz. sliced ham, cut up
1 cup Mozzarella cheese

Preheat oven to 325°. Lightly grease a 9 inch pie or quiche pan.

Sauté onion and garlic in olive oil. Place spinach in a small saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally until soft. Take it off the heat, let cool, and squeeze out any remaining liquid. In large mixing bowl, mix together spinach, onion mixture, eggs, cottage cheese, shredded cheese, and ham. Pour mixture into prepared pan.

Bake uncovered in preheated oven for 45 minutes. Remove from oven and sprinkle with Mozzarella cheese. Return to oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes, until eggs are set.

Let me know how you like it!

Ugh! This is the hardest meal of the day for me. I like eggs but I just can't eat them every day. I also wake up hungry and often don't have the patience to cook something. The bigger problem is I love cereal. I eat the low sugar/high fiber stuff and add lots of milk but it's still a lot of processed carbs. Yesterday I ate a whole grain waffle with peanut butter - the natural kind you have stir and refrigerate - spread on it fairly thickly. I'm running out of ideas.

Hi Kristen! Thanks for the recipe; I'll try it out soon and get back to you on it. It does sound yummy!

Hey Michele- I wake up hungry too and have to make myself think before I start shoving stuff into my mouth! I made a batch of muffins yesterday with whole wheat flour & oats, apples, cranberries, walnuts and so on and had that for breakfast along with a bowl of yogurt & fruit. Not too bad; not overly filling, but not bad and it was easy to grab.

Do you eat oatmeal? Can you do a casserole dish of baked oatmeal the night before and re-heat it? You may be able to find a recipe for a crock-pot version that will be ready to go in the morning.

I usually wind up eating eggs 4 mornings a week, and yogurt/granola, oatmeal or some such the other days. <sigh>
