Not that I would advocate the pill either. It seems unwise to mess with human biochemistry that way. |

I'm looking for a middle way too. I'm (litteraly) sick and tired of side-effects so now I'm looking into the Fertility Awareness Method. I'm not doing the pill anymore, I wouldn't want to risk using only a condom on a day I'm ovulating (yaik) but vasectomy is not an option either because my boyfriend loves kids- and he doesn't have one (or more) yet. I'm still in college and unmarried so he can keep that dream for a while longer. Haha, at least seven years I think/hope.
So I'm now reading a book called 'Taking Charge Of Your Fertility' by Toni Weschler (I never heard of her before, but maybe you do) and its facinating. (But big! Almost 500 pages and bible-sized!) The book is pretty anti-side-effect and indeed makes me wonder if I should have to suffer heavy side-effects of something like the pill 30 days a cycle while I'm only 5 days fertile. I'm only 3 weeks off the pill and I already feel like transforming into me (I felt disconnected from everything and myself on the pill) again. But contraception is a choice everyone has to make within their own spectrum of needs and wishes. I'm charting my basal temps and fluids, but some women may think thats too much of a hassle. |

Unfortunately, the are men who do think that way. One of the vets I work with is married to one. But I do agree that for most men, it's more the fear of someone taking a scalpel and messing with their junk. And as someone who has had two unplanned c-sections, the first an emergency and the second a failed VBAC attempt, I fully understand how scary surgery is. Believe me, I do! And, Hollie, I think for some women it seems like a big hassle, but for a lot of women it may just be too hard to keep track of temps and signals from your body. If you're a busy mom of two small kids for example. Or if you're a woman who has wonky cycles. It's funny, I always had trouble charting my cycles due to being busy and having irregular ones, but now that I've been off BCP for almost 7 years and am almost 2 years out from pregnancy/breastfeeding my cycles are very regular and I can tell when I'm ovulating. It's nice to be so in-tune with my body. |

I know what you mean and your right. If your a woman with two small kids, of which one has nightmares and the other one is just an early waker, its hard to get the 5 hours sleep in a row (so no temping). It has to be hard to have two small kids and a job and a social life and cooking and the dishes and sport, and, and, and...
Lets just say I really do respect those mom's. I don't think I could do it. |
