After reading the book I got thinking about my own sex drive. It sounds strange, but the times I'm most horny are the day after I've been drinking, i.e. when I've got a hangover. This would seem illogical to me, but I was wondering if there is any scientific reason for this.

Also, after reading the section on testosterone and the desperate desire to have sex there and then, I realised that there has only been one time in my current relationship that this has happened to me (though I used to feel like this a lot when I was in my teens). I was watching a film with my partner and I literally dragged him upstairs, we had amazing sex instantly and both came within a couple of minutes. I was incredibly turned on even before he did anything and it felt fantastic. The strange thing is that it happened the day after drinking and taking cocaine (I know, it's really bad for me, but it was only once). Again, this seems strange, is there any chemical reason for it? I would have thought the opposite would have happened.

This is guesswork on my part, but my hypothesis is low serotonin helps a woman's libido, as long as her dopamine is robust. In other words, a natural tendency for depression can work as a secondary sexual characteristic. Both alcohol and cocaine elevate serotonin, and when they wear off there is a drop.

However, alcohol and cocaine also raise dopamine, and I surmise over time they decrease the body's ability to produce its own dopamine, so alcoholics and cocaine addicts have low sex drives overall. But the occasional imbiber might have the effect you experienced.
